Loki’s Tom Hiddleston on importance of character’s sexuality
Loki spoilers follow.
Tom Hiddleston has addressed Loki coming out as bisexual in a scene from the show’s first season.
The Disney+ series focuses on Marvel’s god of mischief and his variants. Loki is bisexual in the comics, and Hiddleston’s antihero opened up on his sexuality to Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in an episode of the TV show last summer.
It was a fleeting moment, but crucial nonetheless as it made Loki one of the first openly queer characters in the MCU – and Hiddleston has now spoken about the importance of that scene.

“I also hope Loki coming out as bisexual was meaningful to people who spotted it,” the English actor told The Guardian.
“It was a small step, and there’s further to go. But it was definitely important to all of us.”
Speaking of taking the role to the small screen, Hiddleston said he was “really honoured to be asked”.
“We all wanted to retain the integrity of the character – I wanted to make sure we didn’t lose the bits that people loved, while doing something new,” he added.

At the time of Loki’s on-screen coming out, season one director and executive producer Kate Herron explained the trickster god’s sexuality wouldn’t be explored further in the first chapter of the TV show.
“I would say in our story, this is how we acknowledge it. But I hope that that paves the way for deeper exploration,” she said.
Herron previously spoke about how important the scenes about Loki’s sexuality were to her as she too is bisexual, tweeting: “From the moment I joined @LokiOfficial it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual.
“It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in #mcu.”
However, it’s entirely possible that fans will get more bisexual Loki content in the show’s already confirmed season two, currently in development.
Loki season 1 is streaming on Disney+. Season 2 has been officially confirmed.
