James Bond star to lead adaptation of erotic novel
James Bond star Léa Seydoux has found her next project and will lead a new Emmanuelle adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seydoux will be playing the French soft-core icon in a brand new film, inspired by the erotic novels written by Emmanuelle Arsan.
Audrey Diwan, who won the Golden Lion in Venice last year for her drama Happening, is set to direct and mark her English-language debut.
The highly-regarded movie was an adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s book recounting her illegal abortion in the 1960s and saw Diwan receive a BAFTA nomination.
First unveiled at the Cannes film market, the project will be co-written by Diwan and Rebecca Zlotowski (An Easy Girl).

Emmanuelle follows the sexual adventures of the title character as she goes through a series of explicit erotic fantasies with her husband to his business associates’ wives. The book was originally published in French in 1967 and had two sequels.
This will also mark the second time this story has come to our screens, having been previously adapted in 1974, starring Sylvia Kristel and directed by Just Jaeckin. It went on to become massively popular internationally and was famously Columbia Pictures’ first X-rated movie.
It also led to many sequels, parodies and low-budget knockoffs, launching the erotic movie genre to new heights.
Meanwhile, this marks a busy Cannes this year for No Time To Die star Seydoux, who has two films showing at the prestigious film festival. First is David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future opposite Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen, alongside One Fine Morning from Mia Hansen-Love.
No release date has been set, but 2022 could be a hectic year for the French actress, with all three movies set to be released this year.
