One of the new owners of the Denver Broncos is the son of a two sex therapists.

The NFL confirmed on Wednesday (June 8) the Broncos would be sold to the Walter-Penner family in a deal worth £3.7billion – just shy of the £4.25billion Todd Boehly paid to buy Chelsea.

The bidding party includes billionaire Rob Walton, heir to the Walmart retail fortune, and Walmart chairperson Greg Penner, Walton’s son-in-law through his marriage to Carrie Walton Penner, who is also part of the bidding team. Being the son of two sex therapists from California, Greg Penner had a rather different upbringing to his father-in-law.

The 52-year-old began his career at Goldman Sachs before joining Walmart as a management trainee. He held a number of positions throughout the company, including senior vice president of finance and strategy for and chief financial officer for the firm in Japan.

He has worked his way right up to the top and was named chairperson of the company in 2015. His parents, on the other hand, remain in the sex therapy business and have their own website

The couple also run their own podcast, called Savvy Sauce, with recent episodes focusing on changes couples can make to enhance their sexual intimacy during marriage.

According to their website, Clifford and Joyce – Greg’s parents – “work as a team in counselling couples and individuals, leading sexual enhancement seminars for couples, teaching sex education for pre-teens and their parents, and more”.

Broncos fans will be hoping the Walter-Penner takeover can lead to some enhanced performances on the field. The AFC West outfit have failed to reach the post-season playoffs in each of the last six seasons.
